Ofcom Broadband Speed survey 2009 reveal customer dissatisfaction

Ofcom & Samknows have released their latest broadband speed analysis report and the results of the customers' satisfaction survey today. The achievable broadband speeds on average was 4.1Mbps whereas the internet service providers advertised the headline speeds of 7.1Mbps. The speed tests were conducted by Samknows broadband analyst UK site during the period November 2008 and April 2009 on nearly 1600 broadband connections spread across the UK. The results showed that only 10 percent of the UK broadband users received above 6Mbps while one-fifths of broadband customers get speeds below 2Mbps. Speeds dropped by 20 percent during the peak hours due to congestion, on most of the networks. Cable broadband was seen outperfoming ADSL in UK, Ofcom reported. Virgin Media was the best broadband provider offerng astonishing 8.1 - 8.7 Mbps on its broadband service package.
